Help. My Galileo thermometer has broken. What should I do now?
The Galilean thermometers we sell are filled with demineralised water and a mixture of isoparaffins and glycols. These substances are not harmful to health.
If the thermometer has broken, you can clear it up as follows:
- Carefully pick up the glass shards. Be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp glass!
- You can clean the area thoroughly with plenty of clean water. Clean the area thoroughly with a clean cloth and plenty of clean water. Changing the water regularly helps to get it completely clean. As there are isoparaffins in the thermometer’s liquid, the water will feel slightly greasy. If you cannot get it clean with water alone, you can also use a mild cleaning agent. Please ensure that the cleaning product is suitable for the surface on which you intend to use it.
- Make sure to ventilate the room well whilst cleaning. The smell is quite strong, but not harmful to your health. It is best to open the windows and doors so that the smell can dissipate as quickly as possible.
Please note: Due to the isoparaffins (oily substance), it may be difficult to clean, but it is important to do so as quickly as possible. (To prevent it from seeping into the wood of the cupboard, for example).
